A Mom’s Guide to Choosing the Perfect Diaper Bag

Hello! 👋  Angeline here.

As a mom of three who also runs 2 businesses, I’ve learned a lot about what makes a diaper bag indispensable. It's not just about carrying everything you need. It's about being organized, efficient, and stylish all at once.

Here's my guide to finding a diaper bag that's both mom-approved and chic, ensuring you're ready for anything without sacrificing your style.

Functionality: The Must-Have Features

Efficient Space Management

Your diaper bag doubles as your new purse and work bag. It needs to securely store your wallet, keys, phone, electronics, and those quick snacks for both you and the kids. Integrated packing cubes transform the usual chaos into a neatly organized haven.

With packing cubes for mom’s essentials, baby’s needs, and quick-access items, every outing becomes smoother and faster. As we all know, babies and toddlers aren’t patient!

Baby Essentials Organization

While the primary role of a diaper bag is to keep all your baby's gear in one place, you need it to be organized.

Must-Have Checklist

✓ Diapers: Always at least carry 3-4.

✓ Wet Wipes: Essential for quick cleanups.

✓ Diaper Cream: To prevent any discomfort.

✓ Bottles/Formula/Snacks: Keep hunger at bay with easy access to feeding supplies.

✓ Spare Outfit: Because accidents happen.

✓ Pacifiers and Toys: To soothe and entertain.

With these essentials neatly packed in designated cubes, your diaper bag will not only be organized but also a portable nursery ready to handle any baby needs that arise while you're out and about. I like to use 2 KAJA! packing cubes - 1 for diaper change, 1 for the snacks and toys:

Style: Looking Good While On the Go

Chic Yet Functional Design

Choose a bag that doesn't scream "diaper bag" to keep it versatile enough for any caregiver to feel comfortable carrying. I always lean towards solid colors that effortlessly match any outfit and occasion.

Comfort and Build
  • The right size is crucial.

Too big, and you're lugging around a suitcase.
Too small, and you can’t fit all the essentials.

  • The weight can make or break your daily experience.

Opt for lightweight bag with durable straps that won’t strain your shoulders.

  • Choose durable materials.

While 'vegan' leather might be trendy and make for a lower price, most are not as sustainable or durable as you think.

Very importantly, it doesn’t hold up well in humid climates like Singapore’s. Genuine leather or waterproof canvas are my go-tos for durability and ease of cleaning.

Designing our Carryall Backpack

When Ying and I started designing our very first product, the BUMO Carryall Backpack, we had a tall task given all the above stringent criteria. But I'd like to think that we have checked all the boxes, and more:

There is no bag that suits everyone, but our Bumo carryall backpacks and matching KAJA! packing cubes may just be the one for you.

What do you think?
